Stone Garden Room

Situated in a conservation area, this A-Listed, Georgian townhouse spans three storeys: lower ground, ground and first floor. Previous alterations intending to divide the house into two separate properties created a duplicitous and impractical internal layout. Helen Lucas Architects have rationalised this to reunite the property and reinstate it as a single home for contemporary living.

Our sensitive approach to internal renovation has seen key period features such as cornicing, pedestal door decorations and the pencheck stone stair carefully conserved. The external envelope has been upgraded to reduce energy consumption with carefully designed replacement double glazed windows and insulation. Traditional materials and conservation methods were employed to carefully repair the external stonework and the slate and lead wall head gutter.

We have removed the existing modern uncomfortable conservatory at the rear and replaced with a contemporary stone garden room generously opening up to the landscaped rear garden, incorporating a carefully positioned rooflight and triple glazed openings to frame views and capture the available sunlight, creating a bright and welcoming living environment.
