Warehouse Restoration
Work Spaces
This secluded Category-B Listed series of 18th c. industrial buildings have been carefully restored and converted to provide storage, workshops and viewing spaces for a local business.
The two Victorian-era warehouses were amalgamated, and the original structure revealed through the removal of the 1980s fit out. Our proposal also encompassed new, breathable internal insulation with an air-source heat pump heating solution ideal to provide a constant internal temperature and stable, dry environment.
The interiors were paired back to celebrate the quality of the original buildings; with large, open windows and rooflights providing an abundance of natural daylight. Where possible the original fabric was retained and restored with ceiling rafters revealed and narrow timber floorboards restored.
Circulation was greatly improved with the introduction of a new goods lift and central staircase. These, coupled with the upgrade of the existing large warehouse entrance doors, allowed much easier movement of large items, and unlocked the upper floors for storage.
The result is a calmly pragmatic, utilitarian building that celebrates the features of the Victorian-era building whilst providing a more energy efficient and comfortable indoor environment.
