Cal has spent time at Helen Lucas Architects at various stages over the years; mostly between terms at the Glasgow School of Art. After graduating with a diploma from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in 2016, Cal has now joined the practice full time.
With a growing intrigue for sustainable design and a fascination with forward-thinking architecture, Cal spent his year out working on an array of CLT (cross laminated timber) and rammed earth projects for Waugh Thistleton Architects based in East London. His honours work examined the affinity between Film, Architecture and Modernism, whilst his thesis proposed a network of botanical urban wetlands in Berlin.
Cal has keen interest in the Helen Lucas Architects’ articulation of local materials and detailing, as a means to create bespoke spaces in both the heart of Edinburgh and the rural context of the Highlands and Islands.
