Living Spaces

An extensive refurbishment project was carried out on this early Victorian family home in The Grange area of Edinburgh.

The removal of various piecemeal extensions from the rear of the property and the replacement with a simpler 1½ storey arrangement has greatly improved the way the house sits in the garden and its relationship to it. The use of Western Red Cedar cladding and dark grey zinc sit calmly against the existing Victorian architecture.

Internally, the flow of space has been simplified and many sunny rooms with a garden outlook have been created.

I wanted something very light, with plenty of natural materials and I was keen to use sustainable products wherever possible. The new extension to the eastern side of the garden means we get afternoon sun. It's stunning in here!
